Top Ten Tuesday

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, this week's topic: Top Ten Books I'd Recommend To Someone Who Doesn't Read Literary Fiction (some of these are technically historical fiction)
  1. The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery - character driven and really unique!
  2. Room by Emma Donoghue - haunting.
  3. Snowflower and the Secret Fan by Lisa See - great story of friendship.
  4. Peace Like a River by Leif Enger - sooo beautifully written!
  5. Still Alice by Lisa Genova - made me cry buckets!
  6. The School of Essential Ingredients by Erica Bauermeister - cozy and delightful read!
  7. The Language of Flowers by Vanessa Diffenbaugh - just lovely :)
  8. The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton - romance, intrigue, whimsy...this book has it all.
  9. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro - heartbreaking.
  10. The Thirteenth Tale by Dianne Setterfield - great bookish mystery.

  1. I put the Forgotten Garden in mine. Room was pretty good! On the other hand Still Alice I wasn't a huge fan of.

  2. Haha, I'd recommend Never Let Me Go to anyone, no matter what genre they normally read! I just don't see how anybody could dislike it :)

I keep meaning to get round to The Thirteenth Tale, but it keeps getting pushed further and further down my TBR. Ah well, I'll get there one day.

    Have a great week :)

  4. Ooh thanks for this list - I have to say I've been a wee bit disappointed by my forays into literary fiction in the past few months - so I'm going to give a few of these titles a try - I've been meaning to read Room for ages.

  6. I've only read Snow Flower and The Secret Fan which was wonderful and powerful. But The Forgotten Garden is sitting on my audible app (I purchased the audiobook) and I am so excited to read it. Same with Room and The Thirteenth Tale and Never Let Me Go.

  7. Great list! I've read and enjoyed Snowflower and the Secret Fan, Still Alice and The Forgotten Garden. I'm not a fan of The Thirteenth Tale, but I seem to be the only person in the world who isn't.

  10. I've got Snowflower and the Secret Fan on my TBR list. It's not something that would have appealed to me several years ago, but as I get older, I'm realizing the value of close female friendships. I've heard only good things about the book, so I'm looking forward to diving in.

  12. Never Let Me Go and The Thirteenth Tale are two that I am really wanting to read really soon. I'm planning to read Never Let Me Go for my Alex Award Challenge, hopefully soon.

I read Room. Yes, haunting. Great book, though.
