Even if you don’t celebrate, what kinds of costumes do you like?”

I loooooove Halloween and costumes are the best part!  I really can't choose a favorite costume, so I'll show you a bunch of recent favorites instead.  In response to the second question, I like all costumes (especially silly ones) but prefer not to do "sexy" versions of things...much too cold in October to be wearing skimpy outfits!  Ok, recent costumes:

Last year we hosted a handmade costume party, and look at this wonderful group shot!

The year before that we had an 80's theme party, my fav costume was my hubby as Tron

  Probably my favorite all-time costume (for myself) was when I went as a Freudian Slip.  I wore a slip dress, big mens cable knit sweater, "Hello My Name Is: Dr. Freud" nametag, and I carried around a cigar :)

“In honor of Banned Books Week, what is your favorite “banned or frequently challenged book”?”


Answer: His Dark Materials trilogy by Philip Pullman.  This series is soooo good and seriously misunderstood by the Christian (mainly Catholic) community.  This misunderstanding caused a great controversy surrounding these books.  In fact, I once recommended this series to a young reader and her mother was furious about it once the mother's friend told her the books are "anti-Christian."  I disagree wholeheartedly with that statement but if you only look at the books at the most surface-level and ignore the (quite obvious) themes then I suppose you could make that mistake.


Ah banned books - isn't it funny that the most frequently challenged books also happen to be excellent (often award-winning) books?

My Answer:  Halloween of course!  It's only my most favorite holiday!  While I love all things Halloweenie I especially like hangin' with my lil' sis (14 years my jr.) and helping her make her Halloween costume.  Last year she wanted to be Sally from A Nightmare Before Christmas and after a trip to Goodwill and JoAnn Fabrics this is what we created:

This year she wants to be a Garden Gnome...so the creative process should be verrry interesting!  What are you folks up to this fall?

Why yes I do!  I'm a huge animal lover and have two lovely doggies! Our eldest pup, Nova, is 8 years old and is a Karelian Bear Dog.  Our youngest, Pippin, joined the family just last Christmas (a present to me from the hubs) and he is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi!  Nova is a quiet and reserved dog (we call her our cat-dog because of how independent she is) whereas Pippin is the most gregarious little pup ever - he just loves people!

What’s the ONE GENRE that you wish you could get into, but just can’t?

Hmm, I really do love quite a variety of genres (which makes it really difficult to keep my TBR list numbers low) but one genre that just doesn't get me very excited is Westerns.  I really do want to get into these types of books but when I see a Western on my TBR list I tend to guiltily skip over it to the next title.  I know that The Brothers Sisters by Patrick DeWitt is supposed to be great, yet my ARC copy sits abandoned on the bookshelf.  Also, I've heard Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry is just amazing but it also remains unread.  I don't understand my hesitation because I've read (and loved) several Cormac McCarthy novels!  Maybe this next year I'll finally get around to reading another Western, have my socks knocked off and go on a Western binge!

 How/Where do you get your books? Do you buy them or go to the library? Is there a certain website you use like paperbackswap?

Welp, I try to use the library as often as possible for the majority of my reading.  I live in a tiny little bungalow which is already overflowing with books so I attempt to keep my buying to a minimum.

When I do purchase books I either use half.com (for cheapness factor...I don't mind gently used books) or I buy books from the amazing independent store in town called Boxcar Books which is a non-profit volunteer-run little gem!

What about you guys?  Where do you buy your books?
