“Who is the ONE author that you are DYING to meet?

Hmmmm...after a little deliberation, (and taking the liberty to assume my author can be deceased) I'd have to say Mark Twain.  That man was a genius and hilarious to boot!  Have you ever read what he has to say about truth?  Pay attention when you reread Huckleberry Finn (because you really should) it's amazing.

I know that many aren't fans of Mr. Twain due to scholastically enforced reading of The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn or The Adventures of Tom Sawyer- I challenge you to reread and see what you think now!  Did you know that Huck Finn is the most written-about piece of literature ever?  Pretty crazy.  Anyways, I'd love to meet the man that has written some masterpieces and is behind some of my favorite quotable quotes :)

Also, Happy Follow Friday!  Again click on the pic to be taken to a whole slew of new book blogs.  The question of the day:

The magic book fairy pops out of your cereal box and says "you and your favorite character (from a book of course) can switch places!" Who are you going to switch with?

Wow, this is a tough one!  When I was a kid, I always wanted to be Vicky Austin from Madeleine L'Engle's books.  As highlighted superbly in The Ring of Endless Light - she was relatable, had an awesome family, and met all sorts of interesting people!  I also used to want to switch places with Aerin the dragon-killer from Robin McKinley's The Hero and the Crown.  She was such a badass...I mean, she saved her kingdom from the evil Northerners!

Yet, I think I want to graduate from these characters...so, I would choose to switch places with Kvothe from the Kingkiller Chronicle series by Patrick Rothfuss.  He's such an enigmatic, intelligent and kind person.  Really, he's almost too good to be true.  And despite all sorts of awful things befalling this man...he has the most amazing experiences!  I won't go into any detail about these adventures so as not to spoil anything for those who haven't read Kvothe's tale - but I think most would trade for just a handful of these fantastical encounters.  And while he's portrayed (in the flash-forward scenes) as a man who's appeared to have lost all that he's gained over a lifetime...I'm hoping he'll be able to prove himself in the final installment of this series!

  2. Mark Twain is such a fun choice. I had his writing scholastically force on me when I was younger, too. But I actually liked it. He seemed like a witty guy but I wonder if he would be nice.
    Happy Friday!

  4. I actually like the enforced Twain reading in school. But my #1 son's favorite book -- "A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court" -- I just couldn't get into.

  5. Kathy and Beckie: Yeah, I enjoyed the enforced Twain as well (I just remember the groans of my classmates).

Jo: Yay, isn't Kvothe the best?

  6. Wow! Every answer I’ve read is a great one. Some have been surprising, too.

The one author I have to meet before I die? Tricky question! It took me a long time – much longer than usual – to come up with an answer.

Who’s that author I’m dying to meet?

Hop this way to find out my roguish answer – http://www.howardsherman.net
