Top Ten Tuesday: Heartbreakers

Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, this week's topic: Top Ten Books That Broke Your Heart.

1.  Shanghai Girls by Lisa See - this is the saddest, most depressing book I've ever read.  Honestly, it was a bit too devastating for me (although I love her other novel Snow Flower and the Secret Fan).

2.  The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - holy crap I cried when I read this book!

3.  The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - I know a lot of folks have yet to read this...so all I'll say is that yep, tears fell whilst reading this fantastic novel.

4.  The Postmistress by Sarah Blake - any WWII book is likely to be a tearjerker and this one did not disappoint.

5. Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro -you must ready yourself for depressing thoughts (and have some Kleenex handy) when you read this book...it's a heartbreaker!

6.  What is the What by Dave Eggers - a book about the lost boys of Sudan...'nuff said.

7.  Still Alice by Lisa Genova - get ready to cry when you read this one!

8.  The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons - talk about a tragic romance - this about ripped my heart out of my chest cavity...several times!

9.  Delirium by Lauren Oliver - the ending devastated me!

10.  Habibi by Craig Johnson - a very tragic graphic novel...yet hope somehow prevails in the end.

  1. Never Let Me Go almost made my list too. :)

  2. The only book on your list I've read is Delirium and agree - it brought me close to tears

  3. Great list! I have read and loved so many of them, especially The Book Thief and The Bronze Horseman.

  4. great list! what is the what is on my list too... along with the bronze horseman! great picks! i'm starting the fault in our stars tomorrow. and i have the postmistress sitting on my shelf, waiting for me.

  5. Nice choices. I cried an embarrassing amount when I read The Fault in Our Stars. Such a sad but good book.

  6. Need to read Fault in Our Stars still, it is sitting on my shelves waiting for me to be reading for a good tear jerker.

  7. I'm getting ready to read The Book Thief for my YA lit class...can't wait! I have The Fault in Our Stars waiting for me as well...I just have to be in the right mood, I think.

  8. I can't believe I left What is the What and Still Alice off my list. Both of those, geez!

  9. Oh no! I've got Never Let Me Go and Delirium coming up soon! I'm afraid of being emotional! Oh my goodness oh my goodness...

  10. And I'm not even going to talk about TFiOS because after everyone talks about how much they've cried after reading it, I literally took it out of my pile and put it back on my shelf. I can't even go there right now. I'm TOO SCARED.

  11. I may just have to reread Never Let Me Go. Such a good story. Also, I really hope to have The Fault in our Stars read very soon! Lots of book I get to add to my reading list - Still Alice looks very intriguing....

  12. I've got Sun Flower and the Secret Fan on my TBR list. I didn't know See had written anything else -- but now I know to avoid Shanghai Girls (I'm too big a wuss to read really sad stuff).

Here's my TTT for this week.
